UK Industry Groups Advocate for Blockchain in US Tech Collaboration
UK trade groups are pressing the government to prioritize blockchain technology in upcoming tech collaborations with the US. A coalition of finance, tech, and crypto organizations has urged Business Secretary Peter Kyle to make distributed ledger technology a cornerstone of the proposed "UK-US Tech Bridge." The letter, also addressed to Economic Secretary Lucy Rigby, warns that excluding digital assets would risk leaving the UK behind other jurisdictions.
Signatories include the Cryptoasset Business Council, UK Finance, and TheCityUK. The push coincides with President Trump's planned UK visit, which will include tech leaders like OpenAI's Sam Altman and Nvidia's Jensen Huang. Industry representatives caution that without coordinated action, UK firms may face regulatory fragmentation in the rapidly evolving digital asset space.
A government spokesperson emphasized the natural partnership between the UK and US, citing existing cooperation in AI, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. The initiative reflects growing institutional recognition of blockchain's strategic importance in transatlantic tech policy.
